The Physician Assistant working in the Otolaryngology Unit under the general supervision of the designated supervising physician, works directly with the clinical faculty and residents to provide quality patient care in the Emergency Department, inpatient units, and ENT clinic, following all pertinent policies and procedures. Duties include pre, intra and post-operative management of patients, assistance with surgical procedures, first call coverage (home based) two nights per week, and consults in the ED and inpatient units. The Physician Assistant reports to the Chief of the Department of Otolaryngology for administrative and general clinical responsibilities, and to the pertinent staff otolaryngologist for daily patient care responsibilities.

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and two years of graduate study in an AMA approved Physician’s Assistant program. Current registration or eligibility to practice as a Physician’s Assistant in the State of Rhode Island as well as ACLS Certification and State Controlled Substance Certification.

An extremely high level of analytical ability in order to apply post-surgical training to the treatment of patients. Good interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively with patients and nursing personnel. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

New graduates are encouraged to apply. Experience as Physician Assistant caring for patients in a hospital setting, preferred. On-the-job training and experience to become familiar with job responsibilities and work routines will be provided.
