Description: The Physician Assistant I Per Diem working in the Cardiac Surgery department, under the supervision of a Registered Physician, performs a number of medical procedures, including pre, intra and post-operative management of patients, assistance with surgical procedures, wound care, and others. Writes admission, pre-operative and post-operative orders for patient care.

Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and two years of graduate study in an AMA approved Physician’s Assistant program.

Current registration as Physician’s Assistant in the State of Rhode Island.

An extremely high level of analytical ability in order to apply post-surgical training to the treatment of patients.

Good interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively with patients and nursing personnel.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

NCCPA certification, ACLS, and DEA licensure.

EXPERIENCE:

Three months on-the-job training and experience to become familiar with job responsibilities and work routines.

PREFERRED: Minimum one year experience in peri-operative management of cardiac surgical patients and assisting in cardiothoracic surgery
